My Weekly Q & A - October 07

Q. I have a lot of problems with allergies and need to wear clothes that have a high natural fibre content. Where can I find more fashionable items like these?

A. Wearing fabrics that are high in cotton, linen or wool should help. Next and New Look have both launched their own special ranges using 100% organic grown cotton. You’ll find Dorothy Perkins jeans are 80% cotton and many of their t-shirts are 100% cotton too. M&S are always a good port of call for linen garments, cotton shirts and fine guage woollen sweaters and tops.

Q. I’ve had a wardrobe clearout and want to restock with some new clothes. What would you advise me to buy that will still be stylish next autumn?

A. Build your wardrobe around neutral coloured separates like trousers, skirts and jackets. Neutral colours such as brown, black, navy and grey are always classic and timeless, you can add colour with tops and accessories. Spend more on items that you’ll wear regularly and keep for a long time, such as winter coats, suits, smart trousers and jackets. Invest in simple, but classic jewellery. It will always fit and  won’t go out of fashion.

Q: I love the swing jackets that are around at the moment but will they suit me as I’m quite petite?

A: To get the look of a swing jacket right if you’re petite, wear the same block of colour underneath. For example a black polo neck with black trousers. This will have the effect of elongating your body. Swing jackets have an A-line shape with a lot of volume, so keep whatever you wear on your bottom half slimline. Avoid wide leg trousers and A-line skirts and opt instead for a straight leg trouser or pencil skirt.
